About

The Whispering Darkness – Tales From The Underground was started in 2018 by two individuals that wanted to express and share their passion for underground metal with whoever wants to read it. With over two decades of experience writing opinion articles, we have no interest in and need for bounding thoughts be it either in ideology or politics, nor in narrow-minded genre aesthetics. But, the focus will be found in, but not limited to, the deeper regions of the underground of extreme metal.

That means that the articles we present here may not all fall within your vision and ideas of (underground) metal, but then realize that in fact everything is a matter of interpretation, frame of reference and opinion. Ultimately, we are the ones who decide what we discuss and publish. We do not appreciate discussion about this.

Promo submission
Most of what we review comes from our own collections and streaming services. Promo submissions are optional, but they are measured against our own standards. A review is therefore not guaranteed.

Background
Our paths crossed somewhere in the early 00’s, those were the years when we gained our first experience writing reviews and interviews. It were those formative years in which the love for extreme metal took deep root in us, but also a friendship was built in which the music was and still is a unifying factor in which we feel each other’s musical tastes seamlessly and continue to enthuse each other. Out of that passion, The Whispering Darkness – Tales From The Underground was born.

Our long experience in the field has also produced a considerable archive of written material. It is estimated that some 2,000 articles remain on the shelves. These have been written for a wide range of different media, both online and printed. We will republish all of these in the coming period. In this, you may recognize that the deeper you go into history with us, the more pieces may capture us in a time where streaming services didn’t exist and our frame of language and writing skills were still developing. But, that’s how these things go.
