Impurity / Goat Semen – Unpure Rituals [Split 7” EP]

Artist: Impurity / Goat Semen
Country: Brazil / Peru
Label: Wolfkult Religion
Format: Split 7″ EP
Year: 2025

Chapter two of Wolfkult Religion’s South American assault is here, with a joining of forces of Impurity from Brazil and Goat Semen from Peru. For those attending their European tour together, the label offers a physical memento to remember those good days by in the shape of the Split 7” EP aptly titled ‘Unpure Rituals’.

Impurity takes control of side A with 7 minutes of unadultered Brazillian old school madness. And they go back almost to the beginning of it all with ‘Third Slaughter’ a cover from the almighty Sarcófago. Appearing on that legendary band’s first demo ‘Satanic Lust’ from 1986, it is as crude a version of Hellhammer done the South American way. Impurity obviously sticks very close to the original as they always have done for their own material as well. Noteworthy of this cover version though is that it’s the first recording featuring new drummer Armando Leprous, famed for drumming for Sarcófago as well as Holocausto and Mutilator. Exclusively recorded for this split in the studio of Chakal guitar player and vocalist Andrevil, Impurity have added and extended drum solo of sort towards the end to give an extra stage to their new member, as well as incorporated an ambient intro. Altogether though, this is a genuine tribute true to one of the legends of South American Extreme Metal as it gets.

On side B Goat Semen rages through two live renditions of ‘Los Ojos De Judas’ and ‘Fuck Christ’, songs that appeared on the recent ‘Fuck Christ’ EP. Although the guitar is a tad more distorted and it’s obvious that they have just one live guitar when the solo kicks in, the sound quality is otherwise pretty close to the EP version. That means that every instrument can be clearly distinguished, without compromising the volatile and intense musical formula of these Peruvians. If anything, it shows that Goat Semen might be even better when enjoyed live, or in this case, on a live recording.

Two bands that have continuously represented the ferocious spirit of South American Black/Death/Thrash Metal together on one split. This was obviously going to be a treat for the sickos that love this wild and untamed sound. But I’m sure you didn’t need me to hear that from me. That there’s just 150 copies pressed that might not last much longer, now that is something to take note of.
