Relentless, menacing, uncompromising. Just some words that come to mind when playing this split between Bluthammer and Vider. Joined by their same home label and love a violent amalgam of Extreme Metal styles, they present ‘Wolfprotocol’, slightly over 40 minutes of merciless pummeling, grooving Black and Death Metal.
Bluthammer kicks things off with eight new tracks that are a direct continuation of what the band offered on their first demo ‘Iron Eagle Division’. In choppy and pulverising fashion, with bursts of rattling drums, growling vocals and buzzing guitars, the band ravages through their 20 minutes of fame. Yet the band has a delightful sense of groove, with the occasional slower bludgeoning section to boot. Alongside Death and Black Metal, Grindcore certainly seems engrained in the sound of the band as well, often reminding met of Swedes like Nasum and Regurgitate. In short, nuance and subtlety, fuck off! Chopping, grinding, rattling and grooving is what Bluthammer dishes out.
Likewise, Vider offers sonic violence without compromises, much in the vein of their debut ‘Strike with Putrefaction’. With a more gritty guitar sound than their German counterparts, a higher pitch of the vocal delivery and inorporation of whammy solos and the occasional keys, Vider offers a wider palette of refined musical elements. But much like their split partner, the majority on offer is a Bestial Black/Death/Grind shaped wrecking ball. Archgoat, Teitanblood, Mortician, Carcass, essentially all that is heavy and uncompromising and violent can be heard in this Swedish one-man project, striking with equal parts of blistering ferocity and shattering groove.
There’s no need to over-analyze what’s on offer here. Call it War Metal, Bestial Black/Death Metal or a mix of Black, Death and Grind, it all comes down to the same: Raging sonic devastation with pulverising groove chopped into 14 lethal doses. Only 100 copies of this on vinyl, so do not sleep on this crushing release!
