‘Weltnacht’ is the first feat of Ërhatiüurä, a new and anonymous band from France, that will see its physical release on May 30th through the always interesting Realm And Ritual label. And although that is basically it as far as information on this band and demo goes, the cover art of this 2-track demo is giving away quite a bit of what awaits the listener…
I remember ordering my first Paysage d’Hiver demo tapes around the turn of the millennium, ‘Die Festung’, ‘Schattengang’ and ‘Kerker’ were very important for me at the time, they were a part of my musical transition and overall development And, although ‘Weltnacht’ might not (yet) be on the same level, for a brief moment I had a bit of the same feeling as I did some 25+ years ago. Ërhatiüurä has much of what made Paysage d’Hiver so special at the time, at least the first track of this 2-track demo tape. While still being rather dreamy and hypnotic in nature, the second song is a lot fiercer and has a stronger and more powerful drive to it. But, as a whole, Ërhatiüurä can be described as keeping middle ground between Paysage d’Hiver, Evilfeast and Nordgeist.
‘Weltnacht’, despite consisting out of only two songs, clocking in well over 20 minutes, offers long and melancholic riffs in repetition, together making for some hypnotic Black Metal that exudes the feelings of the solitude of long and cold winter hikes. The ambient-like synthesizers in the background, very reminiscent of early Vinterriket, is basically the finishing touch. The cold, mournful and sombre atmosphere of the music makes ‘Weltnacht’ an extremely convincing debut. Those who like to participate, should tune in on time for there will only be 30 copies of this demo available.
