Cerebral Curse – Promo ’25

Artist: Cerebral Curse
Country: Spain
Label: Rotted Life Records
Formats: Demo Tape
Year: 2025

‘Promo ‘25’ is the first feat of this Spanish duo, who have already been featured on these pages before in their other bands like Rotten Cavern, Siegehammer and Blight Psalm. Blight Psalm is apparently the odd one out, as Cerebral Curse also dwells in the down-tuned sort of Death Metal. Rotten Cavern’s material was already a slightly doomy affair, the same can be said about this first promo tape of Cerebral Curse.

Let’s start with saying that the difference between Cerebral Curse and Rotten Cavern is rather insignificant, in fact, I can’t think of a good reason why couldn’t just be a new Rotten Cavern release. Well, the musicians in question will surely have good reasons for this. But, in case you have heard Rotten Cavern before, you know what you’re in for. The only difference that I could mention is that Cerebral Curse sounds less bleak and is slightly more riff based. But even then, there’s riffs that feel (or are) directly recycled from the last, long one-track Rotten Cavern demo.

Still, musically, ‘Promo ‘25’ is a very enjoyable listen, the riffs are heavy as Moby Dick and the up-tempo parts make him swing like a dolphin. It’s a true feast for those who love their Death/Doom Metal free from melodicism, romantic vibes and boring Asphyx-riffs. This is more like Disma and Funebrarum taking on some old Decomposed tracks.

This promo tape is to be released through Rotted Life Records, which makes you believe that this label is also in the picture for a follow-up release.
