Let’s start off with saying that nothing the musician behind Zkywbrezdreb ever did was even slightly middle of the road, but this particular project is definitely a great example of something that is basically off the charts on all possible dimensions. The two previously released demo tapes were already quite a hard pill to swallow; in my reviews of the two I have drawn comparisons with the likes of Black Cilice, Abruptum and especially the French weirdos of Brenoritvrezorkre or Vzaéurvbtre. Yet, some may have considered it impossible, but with this latest work with its unpronounceable title, numerous boundaries have again been broken.
‘Uatrevyktuor’ is a 25-minute demo, the project’s third of this year, and displays an equal impenetrable sort of noise, but this time around that is achieved quite differently. There is no big walls of noise, instead it is even quite fragile. But in doing so, it gained even more in creepiness. The eerie and weird war-like drums, occasional use of electronics, quirky guitar sounds and harsh vocals together blend into something really nightmarish. Zkywbrezdreb was never a project you listened to purely for enjoyment; it was more out of a strange and inexplicable fascination with the morbid and the uncomfortable. Probably comparable to the fact that some people seem to find it strangely exciting to watch videos of executions. Something in this music, or rather sound, arouses interest, especially the sections where the noise is limited to the vocals and a kind of folk-like misery remains. Creepy as hell, but strangely fascinating!
