Even though Warfare Noise has been around for almost fifteen years already and has a considerable discography, they never landed on these pages before. Not even with the split 7” EP with Blasphemaniac that was released in spring last year. Which is strange in itself, since Warfare Noise ticks all the boxes that I appreciate in South American Extreme Metal. So, time to set some records straight here with this latest offering, a 4-track self-released digital demo called ‘Satanic Blood Ecstasy’.
In the right continental tradition, Warfare Noise blends in Black Metal, Death Metal and Thrash Metal in almost equal parts into something that surely lives up to the band name. The violent savagery displayed in these four tracks, spanning just over 15 minutes, is not exactly a mirror copy of any other band around, but it just fits seamlessly into a musical heritage that honours the likes of Possessed, Sarcófago, Blasphemy, early Slayer, Sodom and the likes. Not very original perhaps, but that is not a deal breaker. On the contrary, when it is presented in such fashion as on ‘Satanic Blood Ecstasy’ only the ones who don’t understand it will complain.
This new demo has a big advantage over a lot of other releases in the same musical direction from the same geographical region: the sound is absolutely great. That’s not the same as sounding clear or crisp, because it certainly has its obligatory rough edges, but it allows each instrument to come into its own, so you can hear the musical contribution of all the musicians. It’s not overly chaotic either, but skilfully blends the wild component with strong musicianship in four more than solid songs.
South America is one of the birthplaces of this kind of music and it remains a gold mine of untainted depravity.
