Bloodaxe Holocaust is the brainchild of Jake Davids and is at the helm all by himself. Whether this means the end of Sorrow’s Maw, that debuted with a demo last in spring year, is unclear, but Davids seem to have come with bad intentions with Bloodaxe Holocaust. With four tracks, clocking just over 10 minutes, he offers a sonic attack that is definitely not for the faint of heart…

It’s actually not that easy to pinpoint exactly what we’re dealing with here. Davids seems to have thrown everything and the kitchen sink into the mix, and the result is a chaos that’s almost impossible to untangle. You might call it Black/Death Metal or just plain Blacknoise. Whatever you prefer, in the end it doesn’t really matter. It is harsh and noisy and should appeal only to those whose ears are accustomed to it.

I often write about Bestial Black/Death Metal being loud and monstrous, but actually well put together with actual riffs and a clear mindset or vision. Well, this is the exact opposite. Or at least, it seems so. Obviously there are some riffs, but it is really hard to dig through the muddy, crude and feedback-laden production to really hear it – even though the guitar itself still sounds shrill as hell. The vocals take it up a notch, sounding completely demented and fitting perfectly into the overall picture. A guitar solo that pops up out of nowhere amidst all the turmoil betrays a certain musicality, but that’s about all there is to it. This “musical” hostility is what you might call: love it or hate it.
