With Black Cum, Niko “Behemoth” Thomasson (known for his work in and relation with such acts as Cursed Penetrator, Aske, Necro Ritus, Sadistic Evil and Azazel) explores the most foul regions of the Black Metal genre. Heavily interspersed with elements of Ritual Dark Ambient, Drone, Noise and Power Electronics, Black Cum is not quite your average easy listening Black Metal. But those who care for the more obscure things out there should definitely pay attention.
Earlier Black Cum released a tape through Unpure Records, also responsible for the release of this first full-length album, that compiled a good couple of songs written and recorded earlier. It showcased Black Cum as a project that is not really hindered by any boundaries or unwritten rules within the musical realm that is called Black Metal. Yet, while the majority of the music on ‘X – Lussuria Profana Desiderio Diabolico’ is an extension of what was heard on the compilation tape, it’s also fair to say that, to my surprise, this album takes a more traditional approach.
However, “traditional” is to be put into context here. There’s no such thing as Venom or Darkthrone in here, but most of the music is built around the cornerstones of Beherit and Blasphemy, but embellished with lots of elements from slow gurgling passages and haunting noise. A song like ‘Sadico Vulva Profanazione’ has quite a distinct grinding edge, not only by the vocals but also the vocals bear a strong relation to Goregrind. Other tracks have more in common with Abruptum or even Noise-era Havohej and Beherit.
As a whole, though, ‘X – Lussuria Profana Desiderio Diabolico’ has more guitars in it than the stuff on the ‘Black.Cum.Noise’ compilation from last year. That doesn’t only make the album a little bit easier to digest, it also makes for a more versatile product. Even with almost 40 minutes, this full-length doesn’t feel like a session of unbearable torture. Whether that’s a compliment or not, we’ll have to ask Behemorth.
