Fallen Warrior, the only musician behind Occult Mountain, is one of such people who seem to have more hours in a day and more days in a week than our regular mortals. The average length of his releases with either Chalice Of Eden or Occult Mountain may be short, but he’s cranking them out at an impressive tempo. Still, for Occult Mountain this latest work, ‘Wrath Of The Wolf Spirit’, is the first sign of life in 2026. Fortunately, that doesn’t mean the musical formula has shifted in the slightest; this short demo, too, is once again a raw and cold brand of Black Metal.
‘Wrath Of The Wolf Spirit’ is a single-track demo with a duration of just under the 12-minute mark, but still is a textbook example of what Occult Mountain stands for. Even within the rather narrow musical framework in which Fallen Warrior choses to operate with this project, the music sounds as cold as it sounds volatile. With lots of dynamics and strong riffing, the focus remains as strong as ever. Within twelve minutes, Occult Mountain touches upon the broad yet deeply rooted aesthetic of Raw Black Metal, yet is not afraid to conclude with a mystical piece of Dungeon Synth – which, whilst it could serve as a standalone track, is presented as part of a whole.
Whether this latest demo forms a spiritual diptych with the previous one remains to be seen, but the titles certainly seem to link the two (‘Cries Of The Forest Spirit’ and ‘Wrath Of The Wolf Spirit’). Musically, they are in any case much closer to each other than the previous works were. This could therefore mean that Fallen Warrior has managed to set a somewhat more stringent direction with Occult Mountain, because although all the previous work has Raw Black Metal as a unifying factor, it now feels more cohesive and focused than before.
