Invoketh – Hell’s Black Vomit [Demo]

Artist: Invoketh
Country: France
Label: Obscurity Of Error Records
Format: Demo Tape
Year: 2026

‘Hell’s Black Vomit’ is the second demo tape of the French Blackened Death Metal band Invoketh. Back in the summer of 2025, this trio really made an impression on me with ‘Sabbatikal Obsession’; I’m always up for a good dose of no-nonsense evil Death Metal, so this was right up my alley. Despite the musicians’ busy schedules, they fortunately still managed to find time to record a new demo for Invoketh, this time entirely under the banner of Obscurity Of Error Records.

Those hectic schedules are dictated by the large number of other bands in which these three musicians are involved; bassist Terror Reign is in Necroblood and Destruction Ritual, guitarist H. Arkyon is in Hexekration Rites, and drummer K. Desecrator, in particular, is kept busy with Deströyer 666, Sépulcre and Venefixion. In my review of ‘Sabbatikal Obsession’, I already mentioned that their current/previous work in these bands and the musicians’ impressive track record were reflected in what they’ve brought to the table with Invoketh. Fortunately, that’s still the case. The great thing is that all sorts of influences come through on this second demo tape; both the Black and Death Metal backgrounds are given, consciously or otherwise, plenty of scope to manifest themselves.

Musically, nothing has changed, and Invoketh still draws just as heavily on the early wave of Death Metal from Slaughter, Necrovore, Nunslaughter, Sadistic Intent and Possessed. But just as on ‘Sabbatikal Obsession’, Invoketh still sounds anything but dated; as far as that’s even possible within the metal genres. This is down to a raw yet effective production that gives plenty of space to all the instruments and prevents the sound from becoming too much of a muddled jumble. You can clearly hear that these are top-class musicians who understand and live and breathe Extreme Metal.

If bands such as Sépulcre, Profanation, Venefixion and early Necrowretch, all of which Kev Desecrator left his mark on, managed to move you, then Invoketh is certainly worth a listen. It combines the darker side of Imprecation, including the slower passages, with the wild energy of, for example, Profanation or even Abhorration. This is Death Metal as it was once intended: evil and necro to the core, without melody, but full of fire and venom. ‘Hell’s Black Vomit’ is not only better than its predecessor, it absolutely is one of the best demos of the year!
