With ‘Lust Of The Evil Witches’ Finland’s finest, Anal Blasphemy, makes its return after what ultimately turned out to be a five-year hiatus. After the Iron Bonehead Productions released ‘Western Decadence’-album from 2016, we’ve only been kept quiet with a live cassette tape and a double-disced compilation CD. Not really a whole lot, if you take Molestor Kadotus’ regular work pace into account; we were normally served up his obscenity at a steady pace. Anyway, no complaints, on the contrary, as we can once again chew on three extremely depraved pieces of work by this illustrious gentleman.
Despite everything on and around Anal Blasphemy already betraying its musical content, for those not in the know, there is still a surprising amount in the music that provides some variety. If you look, or rather listen, past the fake boobs and other vulgar banalities, you will hear that Molestor Kadotus brings more to his more than two-decade-long musical journey than you would think on first hearing. Consequently, many have therefore, wrongfully, dismissed the band as childish nonsense on the basis of satanic pornography and somewhat insipid live performances.
If you choose to dig a little deeper and ignore all the clownery, you will hear that Anal Blasphemy is actually for real. On the aforementioned latest album, ‘Western Decadence’, Molestor Kadotus already offers a window to the past in which he reveals his love for ancient and occult Black Metal. The buzzing keyboards nicely furnish the gloomy and obscure overall sound. A comparison with the early recordings of Samael, Varathron and, for instance, Mortuary Drape can therefore be tentatively drawn. However, this is “of course” served on a bed of almost traditionally Finnish grinding Black Metal in which sawing guitars, reverbed vocals and the overall typical chaotic sound are omnipresent.
It is in that tradition in which we can also place this new 7″ EP. At times it is typically messy and, again, extremely depraved. But the underlying layer of obscurity and genteel madness makes these two tracks (plus intro) yet another highly satisfying exercise in what can unfailingly be called traditional Finnish finesse.
