After releasing a split 7” with Heathen Hoof and a picture 10” with the great title “Heavy Metal Law”, Axewielder now returns with their first full-length album. This is also the very first full-length for long-running German underground heavy metal label Metal Coven Records – before the only released a whole bunch of (now classic) 7” records and this aforementioned picture 10” of Axewielder.
To the music now. For those who heard and liked the first two outputs of this German band: you can buy this album with your eyes closed. There is no progression or whatsoever. Which is a good thing for a band like Axewielder as they are more of a bastard son of early Motörhead. Pretty much like a band as Baphomet’s Blood they know how to loosely swing their axe and make a hardrocker at the same time. Basically, the 80’s are all over the place on this great record. Enough melodies in the guitar leads and solos but the power of the riff is omnipresent on these ten highly enjoyable tracks.
Comes with this great inlay with silly little drawings and the lyrics. Songtitles and lyrics with the usual ‘beer-n-metal’ humour can’t be left out on this one; ‘Beer Bottle From Hell’, ‘Axewielder Rules The Night’ and ‘Raise Your Tankards High’… enough said. These guys are tongue in cheek, maybe even more so than loads of other similar bands, yet with their music they make up to it and prevent that they are only a ‘jokeband’. For those who are interested, comes in clear vinyl and is limited to 525 copies.
