How this trio came together is something that you should ask them, but regardless of how their individual paths crossed, this Canadian/American collective surely knows how to make some interesting music. ‘Wasteland’, a self-released 4-track demo, is their first feat that shows their admiration for Celtic Frost and up-beat punky Black Metal.

Whether it is a conscious inspiration or a mere coincidence, Celtic Frost certainly isn’t hard to pick out from any of the four compositions on ‘Wasteland’. The buzzing tone of the guitars and the way each riff seems to fade out, that surely has the Celtic Frost signature to it. But Corrosives add a lot more to the mix to prevent to sound too much alike or following the paths of Apokalytpic Raids and Warhammer. There’s an undeniable flair of old school Death Metal in the music, but they seem to be especially influenced by rather old school punk. Not only in the rhythmic changes, but it is the propulsive bass lines that reveal a certain admiration for no-nonsense British Punk.

It all blends down into something that feels both familiar and rather refreshing at the very same time. The almost equal bits of Black Metal, Death Metal and Punk makes that Corrosives reminds you of those bands from the 80’s that were equally hard to frame. That was also the time when blending in Punk, Hardcore, Doom, Death, Black was just as normal and everything was just filed under ‘Extreme Metal’. Therefore Corrosives might appeal to those who are into Venom Celtic Frost, Pungent Stench, Onslaught, Master, Tank, Repulsion, Anti-Cimex, Discharge, Slaughter, Attitude Adjustment or even old Macabre.

They clearly shrug off sophisticated and refined compositions: energy, riffs and rhythms, that’s what this is all about.
