Drape – Under The Majestic Black Mist [Demo]

Artist: Drape
Country: USA
Label: Self-Released
Formats: Digital Demo
Year: 2024

Drape is a new Black Metal band without any other information than it is apparently coming from the USA. But, since we are here for the music and not the gossip, we are diving right into this recently released debut demo.

‘Under The Majestic Black Mist’ is quite a well chosen title for this demo as the band’s take on the Raw Black Metal feels like a “black mist” but is mostly majestic in proportions. It is the raw and almost Lo-Fi production that puts the music in the Raw Black Metal regions, but the music itself is brimming with harmonious melodies and an utterly compelling atmosphere. The screeching vocals and those subdued and subcutaneous melodies often remind of the genre defining work of bands like Moonblood, Judas Iscariot or early Satanic Warmaster, at least taking your on a time travel back to those late 90’s and early 00’s. A period in the development of Black Metal in which bands, labels, distros and fans were exchanging their music mainly on tapes. The dampy and oppressing production of these two tracks, together totalling just over 10 minutes, does a lot of the trick in making it sound so authentically and appealing. Although it is unclear who is/are behind Drape, ‘Under The Majestic Black Mist’ is more than a promising start for the band.
