Eclipsed Moon Apparitions is a new Black Metal project that sprung from the minds of M.W. (Manel Woodcutter) and S.M. (Sanguinous Moth), two individuals who are well-versed in the Spanish Black Metal scene are/were part of bands like Amargor, Hjemsøkt, Nocturnal Tyrant, Vampyric Winter, Nightgaunt and many more. So, although Eclipsed Moon Apparitions might be new and debuting with ‘Eclipsi De lluna De Sang’, these guys are by no means rookies when it comes to crafting Black Metal in all its styles and variations.

‘Eclipsi De lluna De Sang’ a 4-track demo (including intro) that clocks in just over twelve minutes. So, a rather short demonstration, but one that is thoroughly convincing. In fact, it belongs to the best Black Metal demos that I have heard in the past few months. Their musical scope might not be something unique or new, but it is the way these two gentlemen blend the essentials of both Raw Black Metal and a more atmospheric approach of the genre into something that flows so naturally and organically that makes Eclipsed Moon Apparitions so compelling.

The demo tape begins with something an intro that is midway between old-school 00’s Dark Ambient and new-school Dungeon Synth. The intro is only short but clearly sets the tone of the music. In fact that blend of Dark Ambient and Dungeon Synth is kept on the background for the majority of the music that follows and gives it a moody and melancholic feel throughout the full demo. It also offers a great contrast to the raw riffs and the icy cold vocals of S.M.. Add the really harsh and rather chaotic production and you’ll have a good picture of what Eclipsed Moon Apparitions is offering on this first demo tape. That M.W. is quite a gifted musician and knows his ways in Raw Black Metal we already heard on quite a few of his other project, with Amargor possibly being his most convincing project, yet with Eclipsed Moon Apparitions he seems to release more inhibitions and let’s his creativity reigns supreme. Even organs are not shunned and are an integral part of what the band stands for musically.

‘Eclipsi De lluna De Sang’ was released about two weeks ago and sold out instantly. Even though the music gives plenty of reason for it, in this case it was mainly due to the small number in which this demo was available. It was issued by M.W.’s own En Claustere, a small imprint that he uses to release his own music through, but it would be a shame if ‘Eclipsi De lluna De Sang’ wouldn’t be made available on a bit wider scale. A recommended listen.
