This Italian band started as many others, back in 1997 the band began to cover bands like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera and Iron Maiden. Than the band began working on their first own demo and was released in 1998. The band gained interest from many fans and programmers. This led the band to some great gigs with the likes of among others Ancient, Cripple Bastards, The Haunted, Legion and Necrophagist. You can imagine a worse start for a young band, right?
From the heroes they used to play is not much left, the band changed ‘their’ style. The band is balancing somewhere between the Italian and German power/heavymetal scene and the Swedish (neo) thrash scene. Some of the songs really remind me of bands like At The Gates, The Crown, Darkane and The Haunted but always with a swing from bands like Iron Maiden (damn, they still have some things left from their cover-period!) and other familiar heavy- or powermetal bands. Especially the lead guitarist like to show off with his talent of always the same solos and scales which doesn’t always lead to a better song. Most of the times it is a little too much (in the beginning of the second song for instance, “Organic Weapons”) and erases a lot of what could be. But in songs like “Playing With Life” it seems like a new At The Gates arose from the sunny shores of Italy. And to be honest if the guitarist is willing to do a step back and they go further with their Swedish-like thrash I foresee a nice future for these guys in Eviscerate.
