Fulminate, a one-man project from the US that combines Goregrind and Death Metal in a thoroughly old school way, was founded in 2022 and has since built up a substantial body of work, entirely in the Grindcore tradition. With a considerable amount of EP’s and split releases, realised by such labels as Unholy Domain Records and Adirondack Black Mass, you never have to wait too long for new Fulminate material. This ‘3 Traxxx’ promo was released digitally by Max Rivera (also in Organ Failure) on this project’s Bandcamp page and is an appetizer of the upcoming full-length album.

‘3 Traxxx’ comes with a liner note stating that it is dedicated to Sławomir ‘Cyjan’ Cywoniuk of Dead Infection. That alone should give a good idea of what to expect for anyone who has never heard of Fulminate before. And it is exactly that what brought me here in the first place. I wouldn’t claim I’ve heard all of Fulminate’s releases so far, but the firm old school character of this project’s gurgling Goregrind/Death Metal mix-up reminds me of the releases of the early to mid-90s. To me that is still the golden age of Grindcore.

As you might have guessed, this promo has three tracks, all of which will make their appearance on the project’s sophomore album. So, while this promo’s relevance might be short-lived, it shows Fulminate in optima forma. Not only are all the necessary ingredients perfectly lined-up, it is especially the sound that makes it so tasty. With lots of dynamics, crunchy riffs and delicate gurgling vocals it is still firmly rooted in between Carcass, General Surgery and, indeed, Dead Infection, but the definite step up in sound quality makes it much more enjoyable. It is still rough enough for the Goregrind purists, but even more than before it is this very heavy tone that allows the music to be also enjoyable for the gory Death Metal fans out there.
