Although the Danish Extreme Metal scene and the Danish Extremely Rotten Productions label are mostly known for their Autopsy and Incantation-influenced Death Metal bands, Iron Division is something completely different. Also hailing from the Danish capitol of Copenhagen, they pay clear homage to bands such as Conqueror, Black Witchery, Diocletian, Angelcorpse and Revenge.
I can’t deny I have tried my best to find out whether the trio behind Iron Division were also involved in any other bands in the Danish scene, but I must admit my efforts did not bear fruit. Still, I am quite convinced that these lads are rather well-experience members of their native Extreme Metal circles. At least, ‘Blood Tactics’ gives every reason to believe so.
Iron Division might indeed not be the fitting the label’s house style, I can only understand Extremely Rotten Productions picking up this little piece of sonic carnage. In just under fifteen minutes the band treats us to one of the most convincing Bestial Black/Death Metal that reached my ears since the rise of Primitive Warfare. ‘Blood Tactics’ is a savage and merciless beating, that isn’t so much removed from the level of the bands I used to describe Iron Division’s music in the first paragraph. It has the relentlessness of Conqueror, Diocletian and Revenge, the bleak darkness of Black Witchery and the brutality of Angelcorpse. A fine combination that leaves the listener grasp for fresh air, an ultimate amalgam that leaves very little room for nuance and finesse. But, mind you, this is some high quality stuff which definitely shows this is controlled and organized chaos by some skilled musicians. Absolutely not noise for noise’s sake, with each consecutive listen things start to make more sense and the music’s underlying structures begins to reveal itself.
