Though this German band has one of the least inviting band names ever, they are not as bad as their name would suggest. But, that means I never really took the time to get into this band before, so basically, this “Rauchen Und Yoga” is the first album that I really gave a chance…
I can’t imagine that I’m the only one with the same problem, so, if you also had the same ideas about this band, please check them out. As this band certainly has something better going on than I have ever imagined. They blend Birdflesh-like grindcore with the blistering grind/fastcore of mid-era Pig Destroyer, the weirdness of Primus or any possible Mike Patton project with the beermetal of Onkel Tom. Which results in a rather freaky kind of grindcore/metal that is surprisingly well produced. This means that all the details that are carefully put into the music are actually easy to make out of the mind boggling music. According to the biography that came with my promotional copy the lyrics have strong metaphors and all that, but as my German isn’t that good and the lyrics are sung rather fast I can’t make much of it – unfortunately as I have the idea that they complete the musical picture pretty well.
Definitely a must-check for fans of bands like Disharmonic Orchestra and Cephalic Carnage – though its rather safe to say that these German guys have a better thing going on as Cephalic Carnage really seem to be at their ceiling these days. Open-mindedness is mandatory for Japanische Kampfhörspiele, a bit of patience might work as well, but it pays off.
