King Diamond – Give Me Your Soul… Please

Artist: King Diamond
Country: Denmark
Label: Metal Blade Records
Formats: LP / CD
Year: 2007

That King Diamond is back on track is no news, albums like “Abigail II” and “The Puppet Master” were already a class on their own and are the first ones to really be able to compete with the early classics, by either King Diamond or Mercyful Fate. Not that the King released any outrageously bad album, at all, but it seems he’s living his second youth.

The aforementioned albums have certainly been a phenomenal listen, both refreshing and with a good classic touch – even in a time where heavy metal seem to go through an increase of popularity. This new album, “Give Me Your Soul… Please”, can easily be placed amongst the King’s best albums and definitely fit in the march back to the international heavy metal top. King Diamond’s trademarks are still very much alive, the phenomenal tandem guitar work by the maestros Mike Wead and Andy LaRocque and King’s very own shrieking vocals that are unmistakably his. And, of course, a very good concept story. This album tells the story of two little children who are murdered by their father who committed suicide right after, a terrifying story that reminds a lot of the stories you can read in the newspapers these days. Without going into details, the listener should still have something to go for for him/her self, this is one of the most interesting concept stories the King ever came up with as it is very much what happens in real life too, and that is even more scaring.

All in all it is pretty safe to say that no real King Diamond fan will be disappointed by this album at all. It contains some of the best songs, riffs and concept stories they ever came up with. In short, there are no real surprises to be expected, but, in fact, that is not what we want to hear from this band after all. “Give Me Your Soul… Please” has turned up to be a very good and honest in horror drenched heavy metal record.
