Madom – Come Forth O Dread Impaler [Demo]

Artist: Madom
Country: Sweden
Label: Self-Released
Formats: Digital Demo
Year: 2026

With little to no information about Madom, we, to quote Joe Perry, will let the music do the talking. There’s literally nothing else to say other than that this is a new one-man Raw Black Metal band from Sweden that took off earlier this year, with a man named Felix Rahm at the helm.

Just looking at the title and the cover, I assume this is a vampire-themed album centred around Vlad the Impaler. Not exactly groundbreaking, of course, certainly not in Black Metal, and not even within the ultra-gritty niche of Raw Black Metal. Still, it’s not surprising if your thoughts drift to a band like Sanguine Relic, because musically speaking, there are also similarities to be found with that visionary American act.

Madom dwells in a musical realm that is more of a hypnotic scenery of repeating riffs and a profound lo-fi production. Still, in a genuinely surprising way, Felix knows how to be as dynamic and possible within this limited musical frame work. What at first listen seems like an impenetrable mass of noise actually harbours a surprising amount of musicality, far more than the average genre peer. Not only is there great variety to be found in the drums, but Felix also excels in the crushing riffs and the almost Immortal-esque strumming passages. The vocals, however, are a bit on the standard side, but they do fit the ice-cold atmosphere of ‘Come Forth O Dread Impaler’.

At ten minutes, not counting the unnecessary and somewhat perfunctory Dungeon Synth intro, this demo is just the right length and makes a pretty impressive first impression for Madom. We may not know anything about the background of this project yet, but musically, I’ve learned all I need to know. Highly recommended!
