Pus Excretor is a Mexican one-man Death Metal/Grindcore band that released its debut demo in digital form in the summer of 2025. But even though Adrian had no (significant) ties to the underground scene, at least at first glance, ‘Malignant Pustule’ was picked up by three labels. As a result, this short but sweet demo was made available in the three most relevant formats.

Everyone with a penchant for old school Death/Grind (or Grinding Death Metal, just whatever you prefer), will feel something tingling. The black-and-white artwork, the indistinct pile of entrails, and perhaps most notably the way the title is printed on the front cover: it radiates pure old-school aesthetics. This harks back to the first demos and 7″ EPs of bands such as Dead Infection, Regurgitate, Haemorrhage, Phlegm, Blood, Entrails Massacre, Dahmer, and Squash Bowels. ‘Malignant Pustule’ could just as easily have been recorded and released in the early 90s, as one of the direct descendants of Necrony, General Surgery, Impetigo, and of course Carcass.

The simple riffs, thick grooves and gurgling vocals: it’s all there. Not only does it remind of all the greats of yesteryear, it is also hardly inferior to them. What I particularly like about “Malignant Pustule” is the macabre atmosphere, which is reinforced by the slow tempo and sparing use of keyboards here and there.

The original demo has five tracks with a playing time of almost six minutes. Two tracks were added to the cassette tape, released by Extremely Rotten Productions, but even then ‘Malignant Pustule’ clocks in at well under ten minutes. But actually, that’s just a perfect dose of old school Death/Grind. Short but sweet!
