Revenge – Night Danger

Artist: Revenge
Country: Colombia
Label: Dying Victims Productions / Rata Mutante Records
Format: LP / CD
Year: 2025

One of the longest running Colombian Heavy/Speed Metal bands are back with a new record. Revenge, founded back in 2002, have been working hard to get their music out into the world, and, honestly, with varying degrees of success. At some point in their career Floga Records was involved, but otherwise there were mostly smaller record labels trying to help the band the best way they could. Of course that added much to their underground position and fame, but I am convinced they were very glad to strike a deal with one of the world’s best Heavy Metal labels: Dying Victims Records.

Although the album was already released through the band’s own Rata Mutante Records label earlier this year, the German-based Dying Victims Records was interested to present it on both CD and vinyl formats. And that, frankly, is very well-deserved as ‘Night Danger’ is the band’s most well-rounded and convincing album to date.

I personally ran into the band a little late, with the Iron Bonehead Productions’ released ‘Whipping Death’ 7” EP from 2009, but even if you haven’t heard them before you can just jump in with any of their releases. Not that they all sound exactly the same, but mostly because Revenge has always been a honest sounding band whose work is thoroughly enjoyable. They never tried to be bigger than they were and that down to earth attitude shows off in their music.

In care Revenge is new to you, you can imagine a band that fits perfectly in the twilight zone between old fashioned Speed Metal and good old melodic Heavy Metal with an occasional Power- or Thrash Metal riff. Comparisons can be found in bands like Running Wild, 80’s Judas Priest, Running Wild and above all Heavy Metal-era Exciter and Helloween. Perhaps not as flashy as some of their prime musical examples nor is Esteban “Hellfire” Mejía the best Heavy Metal vocalist around, but, if anything, ‘Night Danger’ is a honest, heartfelt and energetically performed homage to REAL Heavy Speed Metal from the 80’s. Highly recommended for those who aren’t always looking for the best, the fastest, the coolest or the most accomplished, but ‘Night Danger’ is perfect if you just need a good, enjoyable album to listen to.
