There’s close to nothing to tell about Satan’s Vengeance, a band that seemingly came from nowhere and debuted with a digital demo entitled ‘taog kcalb eht fo htaO ehT’. But sometimes info and whatever trivia is just utter nonsense and the music itself is more than enough to talk about, or, better: to listen to. If you have a knack for wild and unpolished 80s Extreme Metal, this is something that will definitely be up your alley.

Although I saw someone making an Impaled Nazarene reference, I am sure it had only to do with the title of this demo being written backwards. As musically, the music of one of Finland’s most iconic ever bands is nowhere to be found on ‘taog kcalb eht fo htaO ehT’.

Instead. this 4-track demo is all about basically everything that made 80’s Extreme Metal extreme, at least for the standards at the time. As a whole it is best described as proper Black/Thrash Metal blend, but there’s certainly also a lot of proto-Death Metal in there as well as a good dose of Speed Metal riffs. Consequently, this is a throwback to the heydays of first-era Slayer, Destruction, Slaughter, Possessed, Venom, Onslaught and Sabbat. This first demo comes with a ditto equally old school sound, with rather thin sounding guitars, occasional falsetto screams and chaos-ridden riffs/rhythms.

Let’s say, nothing particularly sophisticated, but it is exactly this ramshackle sound and sort of mishmash of everything loud and wild that makes Satan’s Vengeance (gotta love that name too!) a thoroughly enjoyable band. It suffices to say, by way of summary, that this could easily have been recorded and released back in 1985. Of course, the timing wasn’t intentional, but it’s certainly not a bad moment to release it; the musical tide certainly seems to be in these Brazilians’ favour.
