You don’t necessarily need to be a seasoned metal veteran or completed your metal studies at the Miskatonic University to make an educated guess of where this is going, musically and stylistically. With a band name like this and the title of this debut full-length album it should be clear that this is not going to please the average Wacken Open Air-goer. Instead: dig up your bullet belts, spikes, gas mask and smear some black shoe polish under your eyes and let’s go!

Sex Blasphemy is a band that was formed back in 2010 and released two split tapes and a demo in around the first half of the 00’s. Some of these recordings saw their physical version through labels such as Vulcanic Slut Records, Bestial Desecration Records and the great Silver Key Records from Denmark (is that label still around?). This first full-length album, however, finds us almost a decade after the band’s last sign of life and comes on a self-released cassette tape.

Musically though, Sex Blasphemy didn’t change all that much. Or… The careful observer will be able to determine a few minor changes in the band’s formula. I think, to begin with, it is fair to say that compared to the band’s first recordings, ‘Pungent Ovulations Of The Sorceress’ sounds quite a tad heavier. Not only in the production, but most evidently the guitars are much meatier than before. While still maintaining some of the earlier Black Metal antics, both in the musical and vocal part, there is a palpable shift towards a more Death Metal sort of spirit. Occasionally the band even treads Gore Grind-like territory, just listen to the closing ‘Harmonious Goat Ejaculate’ for example. With those typical old Carcass/Exhumed vocals, it is not hard to imagine that the gents probably have the mandatory Grindcore classics in their collection. ‘Pulsate For Me’, then, is an utterly strange track that starts off as some sort of average Rock song, but gets increasingly crude by adding screams and louder guitars.

‘Pungent Ovulations Of The Sorceress’ is a fun little album that will please people who have enjoyed the band’s previous work as well as those who like their Extreme Metal a bit more quirky. As, in fact, intentional or not, this full-length sounds pretty much like how Pungent Stench would have been a Bestial Black/Death Metal band. Isn’t that something?
