Although the band got off to a flying start with no fewer than three demo tapes in their debut year, 2012, things then went completely quiet from there on. Into The Pentagram did release a compilation tape in 2022 featuring all three demos, but only 40 copies were made. So it is quite possible that the few people who have ever heard Sexófago will have pretty much forgotten the band by 2025. So, it is even more surprising to see the band resurface with a full-length album. And, in case you have never heard them before: their name literally says it all.
Sexófago hails from Australia, but it could very well be a Brazilian band from 1986. Quite unsurprisingly, if you’d put pre-album Sarcófago and Sextrash in a blender, this is the result. Well, pour over some Profanatica for good measure and there you have it.
Unadulterated Black/Death Metal with a thrashy edge here and there that appeals to everyone’s love for musical times when pigeonholing didn’t really exist yet and everything that was wild and extreme was given a random cool name. Needless to say that Sexófago is not bringing a single note or idea to the table that you haven’t heard before or that knocks you over, but it is the sheer devotion to the music, the unbridled energy and sheer power that makes ‘Sexo, Drogas, Muertes’ a thoroughly enjoyable ride.
Fans of the heavier and more brutal South American savagery as well as those who are still banging their heads to the likes of Blasphemy and Beherit should take notice. This is some awesome stuff!
