Some time ago I reviewed the previous out put by this bunch of American rockers called Superchrist. I wondered why no label picked them up yet, and about three days after I published the review I got an email from bassist/vocalist Chris Black and he told me that Back & Black was getting pressed on vinyl and will be released this summer. I always find it very funny to read such things as I just stated that a band deserves backup from a label. Anyway, the band seems pretty productive, since this is already the next album and the follow-up of this “South Of Hell” is already coming up. This next album will be a live album, so, prepare for that one to come as well.
I already found the previous output pretty rockin’. This one is even more impressive, it is not always that you hear a clear progression, in this case there is no doubt! It is actually pretty hard to distinct Motörhead from Superchrist. I think I can’t give any better or more appreciated compliment than this one. The album starts off with a cover of the mighty Iron Maiden (“Running Free”), though it is played on a more rock and roll basis, so it fits perfectly in the rest of the songs and it sets the pace for the songs to follow too. It is like a tradition, the cover songs, this time we get (besides the Iron Maiden song) the Motörhead song (strange enough) “Metropolis” and a July Was Right cover (“Brown Eye”). July Was Right was actually the band where Chris Black was in as well, some time before Superchrist, but never actually made it. The other songs are in the same vein actually, with highlights being “Hurry Up And Bleed”, “None For You”, “Stranger In The Night” and “Aim Low”. Although it is really hard to choose for all songs are great. Maybe I’m going too far with saying that this belongs next to your “Bomber”, “Iron Fist”, “Overkill”, “Orgasmatron” and “Ace Of Spades” LP’s, yet if you these albums are true to you, you’d surely check this out.
This album really rocks your pants down!
