Terrorshroud is a new Black/Death Metal band rising from the ever-fertile Greek underground scene. But while the individual band members only go by their initials and with blurred-out photos, it is at least known that drummer Nikolaos Sidiropoulos (Θλίψις/Thlipsis, Isolert, Sorry… and more) is part of the group. And responsible for the mixing and mastering is Achilleas Kalantzis, long-time string wielder of Varathron as well as of Katavasia. That leads me to believe that the other two band members are also veterans in the Greek Extreme Metal scene. But honestly, you wouldn’t necessarily believe that just by listening to the music itself.
I don’t mean to say that ‘Order Of Absolute Terror’ is bad or that the music is poorly played. What I actually mean is that the completely chaotic approach and the overwhelming wall of sound don’t exactly give it a virtuoso feel. Of course, that was never the intention. Instead, the trio committed themselves to creating the most suffocating example of Black/Death Metal possible. And they have certainly succeeded.
The very cold, mechanical sound of this demo, which incidentally lasts less than thirteen minutes, gives the usually fairly predictable Bestial/War Black/Death Metal violence its own twist. The drums are quite meaty with a good dose of propulsive energy, but the guitars don’t have the usual meat grinder noise, instead sounding extremely sharp. In terms of guitar work, at least, it leans heavily on the traditional Black Metal tradition. With a little imagination, you could even recognize a bit of that extremely shrill ‘Battles In The North’ sound here. But then there’s the full-on clattering bass that demands a major role and again ties in perfectly with the mechanical and militant sound of the drums.
This demo is definitely not easy listening material and demands a lot from the listener. Even for the seasoned Bestial Black/Death Metal fanatic, it’s for the best that this is only a relatively short burst of aggression.
