Just a few months prior to the release of the band’s debut album ‘Blasfémico Resplandor’, Tumba also released a 4-track demo tape. ‘Armagedón’ appeared in three versions through an equal amount of underground labels, including David Vega’s own Inframetal Records. Although this is a little older and the debut album has already been reviewed, ‘Armagedón’ also deserves some attention of its own. At least, if you’re in for some wild South American Black Metal.
‘Blasfémico Resplandor’ showed the band from a more Heavy Metal-based side, with lots of great leads and Heavy Metal song structures. That resulted in an album that has a lot in common with the current Black/Speed Metal movement in which clear resemblances with German Heavy/Speed Metal bands are found. ‘Armagedón’ on the other hand, despite there being only a few months between, is quite a different affair. Of course, there’s a much of Tumba’s rather recognizable Heavy Metal bits and pieces too, but as a whole ‘Armagedón’ is thoroughly Black Metal demo. Not only in terms of riffs and a more distinct Black Metal screeching sort of vocals, but especially the production and overall atmosphere as much deeper Black Metal touch to it. That rawer production suits the band equally as good as what they’ve shown on ‘Blasfémico Resplandor’ and should appeal to those who can’t get enough of that rather typical, genuine South American-style of “fistbanging” Black Metal. Guaranteed no hypes and trendy shit.
The Inframetal Records edition of the tape came as a hand-numbered edition of 43 copies, but the Destruktion Records and Hell Force Productions editions came in 100 and 50 copies respectively, of which the last one came out in February this year. So, those willing to take another dive into the world of Tumba should still be able to get a hold of a copy of ‘Armagedón’.
