On a miserable, rainy, grey and stormy January day, nothing really fits better than an all-consuming darkness in musical form. For that joyous occasion today, I threw in the debut of this Swedish one-man operation. With a title like ‘Strike With Putrefaction’ and a beautiful red/white/black cover of an upturned and spiked hammer-cross, I know how to turn my spirits back a little for the better.

Fortunately, Vider does not disappoint on any level. In this delicious one-dimensional brew, the best of many worlds are fused into a brain-melting, festering welter. ‘Strike With Putrefaction’ blends elements from bands like early-Xysma, Archgoat, Morbosidad, Teitanblood and even Mortician. With the tempo being on the relative slow side, the pulverisingly heavy guitars predominantly take the leading role, hence the musical parallel with Xysma and Mortician. The equally simple drums, stylistically close to Archgoat, further accentuates the primal energy of the music. Add some bellowing and harsh barking vocals for good measure and there you have it: a total caveman experience.

Vider leaves very little to the imagination, in just over 25 minutes it runs over you like a bunch of stampeding steamrollers. You might feel free to disregard this if you prefer your music to be dynamic in nature, or instead endowed with finesse and frills: none of this appears in A.H.’s playbook. But if you fancy a hefty musical whipping where aggression wraps a ritual dance with blind rage, Vider is an excellent choice to start (or end) such a wretched day as this.
