From the ever-thriving Canadian Extreme Metal scene, here’s yet another new band that adds to the country’s metal landscape. Canada may well be the only civilised country in North America, but ironically, it makes an impressive contribution to the most depraved kind of music ever created. Weresatan is the latest proof of this: wild and unpolished. Fans already know exactly what to expect, of course…

If we were to compare them to a few established acts, Weresatan could best be described as something halfway between Blasphemy on the one hand and Nunslaughter on the other. The core of their sound is best described as the ramshackle Death Metal that Nunslaughter produce: straight to the point, straying as little as possible from the concept, and based purely on one or, at most, two good riffs. Add a fresh shot of filth to make the whole thing a bit more chaotic and primitive, and you’ve got a pretty good idea of what Weresatan is all about. In just under ten minutes, this (so far) anonymous band treats us to a deliciously nasty bit of Death Metal with a touch of Bestial Black Metal that’s sure to put a smile on the faces of those who prefer their music as dirty as possible. And you shouldn’t be too squeamish about an equally nasty joke either, as the samples are of a very high standard.

‘Infernal Hymns Of The Sodomite’ has been released on cassette tape by the Canadian label Defiled Altar, which last year treated us to the very recommendable Satans Blade (the Canadian band, that is). A label that, whilst operating at a leisurely pace, is certainly worth keeping an eye on. Just as with Defiled Altar’s previous releases, this is another real treat and the label is increasingly establishing itself as a true cesspit of filth. Foul-minded folk, unite!
