Just about five months after ‘Breeding Depravity’, the band’s second demo, Death Metal band Woundead already returns with a new demo tape. With three demos in less than a year, these Italians are by no means wasting any time. But, as long as that comes with the enjoyable quality of what they are putting forth, there is very little to complain about.

Just as ‘Breeding Depravity’ was a slight step up from ‘Festering Death’, the band’s debut demo tape, this third one is yet again another step forwards. This time, however, the progression is mostly to be found in the Woundead’s way of putting their music to tape. Because on the musical side itself, these three new tracks are almost identical in approach to what we heard on the previous demo. The production, if you’d like to call it that way, is actually a tad rawer in nature. Consequently, making ‘Lunacy Blasphemy And Gore’ feel like a demo tape from the late 80’s, from that vibrant period in which Thrash Metal was pushed more into the extremes and slowly started to take the form of what later would be labelled as Death Metal. That means that besides the previously evident inspiration of early Autopsy and Necrophagia there are hints and echoes of Slaughter, pre-album Death, Necrovore and Master. Altogether it all adds to Woundead’s most significant asset: the authentic 80’s Extreme Metal sound. For those who like their Death Metal ugly and nasty, you don’t have to look much further: get your hands on one of those 50 tapes from Unpure Records.
