Inferior – Wrath

Artist: Inferior

Label: Self-Released

Year: 2025

Even without having a clue who is exactly behind the band, Inferior isn’t making a secret of their musical direction. The cover art for ‘Wrath’ already gives away a bit, but the careful observer will especially love the logo that has Antti “Goat Prayer” Suomalainen (Witchcraft) written all over it and bears enough similarities with many other bands in the same Black/Death Metal scene to wet the mouths of the true connoisseurs.

Inferior’s line-up and musical origin is not the only thing that is a bit cloaked in mists, it seems the band might have released a short demo not too long before this full-length. The confusion is mainly found in the fact that both the demo and this debut album share the same cover art and bear the same title, even the three tracks of the demo also appear on this long player. But, let’s not let that distract us from what we’re here for…

It might be that Inferior is only debuting with ‘Wrath’, the music on offer doesn’t sound at all like these guys had just started playing music. Not only is their take on the Black/Death Metal genre sounding as sharp as a razor, they have a remarkable sense for song writing. Musically Inferior can be positioned somewhere in between Angelcorpse and old Deströyer 666 with a considerable South American seasoning. It comes with catchy riffs and melodies, occasional frantic Palubicki-like whammy-fuelled leads and impressively dynamic drumming. To top things off, this is all poured in a surprisingly clear production making every individual instrument heard. With its brisk pace and Thrashy edge, this is definitely muscular no-bullshit Black/Death/Thrash Metal that should appeal to fans of the aforementioned bands as well as followers of acts like Nocturnal, Desaster, Bestial Warlust, Protector, Perversor, Urn, Nocturnal Graves, Destruktor, Force Of Darkness, Gospel Of The Horns, Bestial Mockery… I think you get the point?
