‘Rance Moelle / Accoutumanc’ is the one-track follow-up demo of ‘Bourbe’ and ‘Liturgia Horarum’, two demos that saw the light of day at the end of 2024 and very early 2025 respectively. Yet, while this demo features only one track, it isn’t even that much shorter than its preceding work. With over thirteen minutes ‘Rance Moelle / Accoutumanc’ further expands the musical elements already touched upon and even stretches the concept to a slightly wider soundscape.

The first part of the song, I assume that is the ‘Rance Moelle’-bit, has a dense and rather oppressive sound that feels deeply rooted in the melancholic realms of the Black Metal genre, but the second phase is dramatically different and ventures into Post-Black Metal territories. Honestly, I’m having a little trouble with that transition and it leaves me a little undecided. I am aware that this is mostly due to my personal preferences. Consequently, the first part pleases me much better than the second, to me it sounds like a musical clash between Forgotten Woods and Candelabrum, something that turns out extremely well. The second half of the song feels closely related to Alcest and especially Lantlôs. No question, the dreamy and organicly flowing melodies are expertly composed and executed, but to me feel lost and even out of place after the solid first part. Just like the part of the movie after Frodo was finally able to toss that damn ring into the fires of Mount Doom, does it have a purpose? It feels like it goes on too long.
