I don’t know who lies behind the pseudonyms Pyromaniak and Decimator, but together they form the new Finnish duo that, under the name Diabolical Vengeance, is making its mark on the slowly but surely growing group of bands joining the Bestial/War-style Black/Death Metal scene. With ‘Conquer The Temples,’ they present their first digital demo, and although the artwork comes across as a bit corny, the music is definitely worth a listen.
In just over 12 minutes, the band races through no fewer than five songs. The tempo is therefore high, the songs are short and sharp, creating an almost suffocating atmosphere. This is further intensified by the continuous piercing vocals, which leave the listener almost gasping for breath. It is therefore not surprising that a musical comparison with Revenge and Conqueror is the most obvious. Still, Diabolical Vengeance also reveals quite a bit of musicality; just listen to ‘Dragging Chains’, where an undeniable bit of musical talent surfaces, especially toward the end. The tasty whammy-style leads, which, by the way, pop up quite often, give the music just that little extra something to prevent it from being labeled as mere noise. It also provides just enough dynamism to stand out among the vast number of bands in this specific genre. Definitely a killer first demo!
