Only about two months after Black Vomit 666’s latest full-length album, the band already presents something new to sink your teeth in: a new EP released on CD by Black Legion Records. Even if you haven’t ever heard of the band, with such a title the Black Vomit 666 doesn’t leave much to the imagination. This power trio delivers a solid dose of Black/Thrash/Speed Metal really that checks all the cliché boxes, so: fans know what to do; everyone else can just leave it be.
While the music is pretty much literally nothing too special in terms that it doesn’t offer you anything new or unexpected, the most striking about Black Vomit 666 is that the band has been around since 2012 and has a considerable discography but practically nothing has ever reached American of European shores. Not that it’s strictly necessary, since Latin America has a very vibrant scene of its own, but this is the kind of music that does well here, too. Not only are there plenty of die-hard fans here who really get into this stuff, but there are also plenty of small labels that specialize in this sort of music.
Now that I’ve expressed that surprise, let’s spend a few words on this latest work by Black Vomit 666. As already stated, Black Vomit 666 is not here to change the course of Extreme Metal or to reinvent any wheels of steel, it is very clear from the very start that these guys are cranking out riffs inspired by their favourite bands. Nothing more, nothing less. In this specific case that means that we are presented with some frantic and razor-sharp Black/Thrash Metal that reminds mostly of the German ‘Big Three’ from the 80s. It has the rhythm section of Sodom, the guitar sound of Destruction and the sharp aggressiveness of Kreator. In addition, lots of Heavy/Speed Metal has been laced throughout the full 26 minutes of playing time and gives the whole thing a clear Nocturnal/Desaster-kind of vibe. That should paint the right picture for anyone interested in old school Black/Thrash Metal in the non-wimpy-fashion.
