Beast Majesty – Ungodly Revenge [EP]

Beast Majesty might a new band in the Extreme Metal scene, but the only person behind it is far from a newcomer. The wild child helming this new project is Alejandro Alfaro Vásquez, who is a rather well-known figure in the Peruvian underground Extreme Metal scene and is currently active in both Anal Vomit and Evil Priest and used to be in Rito Profanatorio. But, although Beast Majesty has some rather evident similarities to all three of these other bands, Beast Majesty is pretty much what the name says: a majestic beast. A untamed rabid beast of Bestial Black/Death Metal.

‘Ungodly Revenge’ is a rather short affair, clocking well under fifteen minutes, but it leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination. And if you still had no clue, this EP’s closing track is ‘Desecration Of Virgin’, a Sarcófago cover that originally appeared on their infamous 1987-released ‘I.N.R.I.’-debut album. But, it doesn’t stop right there, the barking vocals, the deep grinding guitars and the ferocious drums do remind of a mix of Blasphemy and Naked Whipper. You could add some Impaled Nazarene from their ‘Tol Cormpt Norz Norz Norz…’ album from 1993 and some good old styled Death Metal for good measure. In fact, ‘Ungodly Revenge’ is a total punishing, old school mix of the heaviest stuff that was around during the early 90s.

The production is rather fitting as well, it is both heavy and crushing, but in a completely different way from most contemporary Death Metal bands. It is not conceived from multiple layers of guitars, instead ‘Ungodly Revenge’ has a rather simple mix. It is heavy in the same sense as the aforementioned ‘I.N.R.I.’ or Blasphemy’s ‘Fallen Angel Of Doom’ are heavy and left you out of breath you heard it for the first time. The combination of relentless speed, the frantic guitars and the reverbed, bellowing vocals is more than enough to make listening to ‘Ungodly Revenge’ a thoroughly authentic experience that rightfully honours all the masters and masterpieces from yesteryear. A merciless piece of music!
