Not much is known yet about this Russian band, which recently made its debut with ‘Icon Of Carnage’. I am unaware of exactly who is in the band and what their background is. A bit of digging around has actually revealed little more than that the band seems to have recently changed bassists, or perhaps even does so on a regular basis. Nor is their exact origin known, making it difficult to determine whether the band is an offshoot of other acts. In itself, Blasphegenocidic Sadowar’s music speaks for itself, but curiosity sometimes gets the better of me. Still, for now we’ll just have to make do with the 21 minutes of music we’ve been treated to…
With a band name like this and the cover art chosen for ‘Icon Of Carnage’, it’s obviously not hard to guess where Blasphegenocidic Sadowar fits in. As well as these unmistakable clues, their live shows are full of blood, spikes, balaclavas, black sunglasses, bullet belts and other items from the standard kit of a Bestial Black/Death Metal band.
Musically, they’ve also drawn inspiration from that very same kit, nothing about ‘Icon Of Carnage’ sounds even remotely original. After an intro that’s just a tad too long, the band launches into action like a raging tornado consisting of grinding guitars, thundering drums and a frenzied vocalist. But what really appeals to me personally is the guitar sound, which isn’t bottom-of-the-barrel, making the whole thing sound slightly more ‘open’ than the average band in this genre. As a result, this debut EP shares its main affinities not so much with, say, Teitanblood, Archgoat or Proclamation, but rather with Angelcorpse, Abominator and Bestial Warlust. The stronger focus on the riffs therefore clearly reveals the musical foundation, despite all the chaos and violence. The vocals, which are imbued with a demonic effect almost throughout, provide a stark contrast to the riff-heavy compositions and show that the band means business: no prisoners are taken here.
If a more Death Metal-oriented style of Bestial Black/Death Metal is your thing and you’re also a fan of fast, heavy and energetic Death Metal such as, say, Abhorration, then Blasphegenocidic Sadowar might well be up your alley as well.
