Last year a few split 7″-es with Agathocles featured on one of the sides have been released. One of those EP’s is this one with Godstomper. A nice glossy cover, no-fi and the anarchistic lay out… Typical release again!
The six tracks on the Agathocles side are very typical as well. The tracks were recorded in 1989 in Aalst (Belgium), and mark the sound of that period, somewhat harsher. Which is heavily underlined by the quality of recordings, unmistakable an Agathocles live show from the late 80’s. But this means that not everyone will be very happy with this 7″ EP, the recording are very raw and chaotic. But somehow it brings me in nostalgic moods and I really dig the 80’s grindcore sound.
The other side features Godstomper, a rather strange band in my opinion. I must honestly say that I heard a lot about them but haven’t heard some of their previous efforts, live shows or anything else. So, a new band to me. But, with all respect, I don’t really like it, I am not too sure what’s the reason. Yet, this is quite an original grindcore band, it mixes a rather big chunk hardcore in their music and it is played on a low tempo, which makes it all quite tame. Interesting but not yet very breathtaking.
