And? Yet another swap of new Agathocles releases have been spawned. This time it is a split EP with Finish punk hardcore band Kuolema. A little intro information, this split EP has been released in 500 copies (like most Agathocles EPs), for the quick ones there is this clear vinyl version, but the regular black vinyl version is pretty well done too.
Agathocles kicks off and after one spin I already knew that this 7″ EP contains the best song of their last bunch of records – let’s say, the last year. The song I’m referring to is “Fist The Rapists”, I truly hope that they are putting this song on the new album (they’re currently writing materials for the upcoming studio album) for it would be really sad if this song would pass many ears. This is also the way I like Agathocles best, mid-tempo, groovy and catchy (yeah, I’m not kidding!). Great lyrics make this song simply the best I heard in the period that includes Roel. The other songs, the lyrics, the sound and all other things are in the direct line of what is released in the past few months. The raw n’ rough sound of the DDN mastering is getting me addicted to this.
Kuolema is such a band that really lacks all grips on me. I have no clue what to do with this. Some noisy punk/hardcore band from Finland, I’ve been stumbling upon this name for many times in the underground movement. They’re putting out loads of EPs and other releases for years now (at least, I think they do), but I never heard them before. The music is choatic, the vocals are annoyingly too loud. I’m sorry, not my thing.
So, if you were doing it for me, BUY this EP for the awesome Agathocles song “Fist The Rapists”, but Kuolema isn’t much to me. Maybe these songs are not much representative for the band and I only can judge on these three songs. To me this is pretty much the same as the Siviili Muhra split, which wasn’t much of my liking either.
