Although Bestial Possession has been around for quite a few years, over two decades even, there has been periods in which the band was more active than others. The last couple of years were rather silent, with the last recordings being released in 2021 as part of a split tape with Atonement and a couple of songs as a contribution to a compilation CD (along with Necrohammer). Possibly prompted by the fact that Bestial Possession main man Jose Necrofucker moved from Peru to Spain, basically forcing him to continue the band as a one-man operation. But, here it is: ‘Metal Chakal’, another triumphant piece of South American Black/Thrash Metal that has its origin written all over.

‘Metal Chakal’ is a 4-track EP that clocks well under the 12-minute mark, but despite its relative short playing it leaves none alive. And besides I do prefer my Extreme Metal short and lethal, I am even more happy that this EP has also been released on 7” vinyl. Although it is still the music that counts most and not necessarily the format it is presented on, I am still happy to see 7” EP’s being released. In a market where this is getting increasingly more difficult, that is something totally commendable.

But: the music! ‘Metal Chakal’ is a Black/Thrash attack extraordinaire. Nothing original or anything that needs multiple spins to wrap your head around. These four new tracks expertly blend the speedy Thrash Metal of bands like Sadus with the primal and unbridled power of early Sepultura and the speed of Sarcófago’s ‘I.N.R.I.’ (those drums!). This is all poured in a Black Metal mould to resembles a bit of the harshest stuff from Bewitched and Swordmaster. To top things off, the messy jumble production reminds me of the early Krisiun records, making ‘Metal Chakal’ basically a product that is hard to dislike by anyone who is into any form of Extreme Metal. And even more so, if you happen to have a soft spot for South American violence then you can’t go wrong with this new Bestial Possession EP. Maybe a little hard to find if you’re not in Peru, but it is definitely worth digging around for it!
