Usually I would not feature these kinds of bands, doom bands that lean too much to the stoner-side are usually not my thing and definitely don’t deserve a place in this ‘zine. Black Pyramid is, however, an exception. Stoner that calls itself doom is actually the worst out there. That is just the same as white metal bands who claim to play black metal.
This American band play a bit in the crunchy vein that can be compared to a band like Earthride (minus the bluesy feel) and has the same repetitive kind of songwriting that we know from Reverend Bizarre for instance. The first song, “Visions Of Gehenna”, starts off with a very stoner-like riff and has the same slightly distorted vocals but ends up being a very decent song.
Belgian label Electric Earth actually has some quality recordings to offer from bands from the same region as Black Pyramid, stoner/doom bands that are hard to qualify. Only for those who are interested in this kind of bands, of course. I actually enjoyed this 7” quite a bit, but now I will have to find some Sarcofago!
