The reason for the release of this boxset is unknown to me, but it has got something to offer, especially for the newer fans who got hooked up with this band around their “Sadochismo”-alnum or later. As this collection features both first albums by these German filthpigs and to keep it interesting for fans from the early days there is quite some unreleased stuff as well. The very interesting, yet undfinable, artwork adds to the obscure image the band found themselves just after the recording of the aforementioned “Sadochismo”-album. Revolting for some reason…
Disc one of two features the full “Opus(sy) VI) album from 2000, originally released on Shredded Records. To most of you this won’t be anything new, but I remember hearing this for the first time. It was (and actually still is) one of the filthiest and nasty goregrind album I heard in years. The ultimate groove knocked out most of the competition, and even the legendary GUT had difficulties competing. “Opus(sy) IV” is still Cock And Ball Torture’s best album and one of the best albums ever recorded in this genre, so it is in no means a punishment to listen to this again. Though most of the titles are suggesting it is more of a punishment than a romantic display of love, some of the juicy bits: “Koala Cunt”, “Panda Penis”, “Fat Sex Mama”, “Juicy Lucy”, “Big Tit Slappers” and the classic “Anal Sex Terror”. If that is no invitation for some sweet love making…
The second disc starts off with the twenty-minute “Cocktales”-debut mini-CD from 1997 (later also re-released by Shredded Records), it might be clear that in this stage the band wasn’t on their full-blown-groove way yet, they were clearly searching for their style. There is enough groove and basically it doesn’t really differ from what they did on later works but it lacked the great monsterous swing that they displayed on “Opus(sy) IV” for instance. Yet “Cocktales” still has got the awesome live-killers like, the great song “She Sucks As Hard As She Can”, which also shows that their humour isn’t as great as on their later albums either. Also on this disc are the tracks from the split 7”es with Grossmember and the awesome Polish Squash Bowels, these tracks are not very different from the other tracks, they all have that same problem but predicts the future for Cock And Ball Torture, as they would become one of the best bands around. A compilation track, that was unknown to me, under the name of “Clit-Blast Massacre” from the “Gore Is Your Master”-compilation was also added and shows the band on the edge of being groundbreaking heavy. The next six tracks are ‘previously unreleased’ and are the extras for this boxed set.
All in all a nice compilation of great tracks by one of the best gore grind bands ever. While having listened to all these tracks I still regret Cock And Ball Torture to have ditched their pitchshifter, I realised I never played “Egoleech” since I wrote a review for it. Too bad, that was a really bad idea after all…
