Artist: Corpus Offal / Undergang
Country: USA / Denmark
Label: Extremely Rotten Productions
Formats: Split 7″ EP
Year: 2026

Following the split 7“ EP between Cadaveric Incubator and Cardiac Arrest for their joint European tour, the Danish label Extremely Rotten Productions is now also releasing a split 7” EP between the American band Corpus Offal and the Danish Death Metal flagship Undergang, also for their tour together through Europe. Two tracks, one each, the classic formula strikes again…

Although I found the 2024 2-track demo by Corpus Offal (20 Buck Spin) promising, I couldn’t shake a sense of disappointment after listening to the self-titled album from 2025. Now that I’m hearing another single track like this, I’m once again convinced that this kind of music simply works better in small doses. Because here, this American band completely wins me over again. ‘Epitome Disembowelment’ is a great track that blends slightly technical Carcass/Abhorrence/Incantation-style death metal with a touch of old-school Grindcore. The song has enough dynamics in terms of slower and faster sections and a diverse vocal delivery to leave you, as a listener, satisfied. Also the great guitar work, including tasty leads and choppy riffs, is top notch.

On the other side there is Undergang, perhaps the best example of a band that works splendidly on (split) EP’s. None of the band’s albums are bad, not even in the slightest bit, but its heavily down-tuned sort of Autopsy-meets-Incantation Death Metal with a strong Goregrind core just works best when served on short players like these. David “Torturdød” Mikkelsen, the spiritual father of Undergang and, to a certain extent, that of the Danish Extreme Metal scene as a whole, this new track once again caters perfectly to fans of low, gurgling Death/Grind. More than usually ‘Maddikehavets Dans’ is a song which sits right in the middle between the familiar sound of Incantation on one hand and Carcass/Impetigo on the other. In fact, you could easily argue that this sounds more like Exhumed than anything the Danes have produced before. So go ahead and enjoy it!
