Number two in the Relapse Records Slimewave Series, this time Italy’s fastest grindcore veterans Cripple Bastards team up with the same force from France, Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, two of my favourite grindcore bands on a 7” EP, what a delight.
Side A features the Italians. Cripple Bastards are as angry as they usually are, they prove to be a steady force that deliver great quality, always. It is actually nice to hear that they haven’t changed a whole lot since their initiation about a 100 years back, but they just refined their style and have grown to big name in the scene. The dark sound and the frantic blasting with the Swedish crusty sound is just still a great mixture and vocalist Giulio the Bastard seems still as angry as always. A truly convincing four tracks!
On the other side is Sublime Cadaveric Decomposition, though they seem to have changed their ways of getting their stuff together. They now have song titles (though some of their early releases and splits had the same, but their latest full-length has song-titles and a real album title too), and they use actual lyrics. Whether that is a progression or a reason to ditch the band is of course a matter of how open-minded you are, but the music is still as swinging and gory as ever, yet they seem to have tempered their music a little. Not as frantic as their debut LP back in the days, but they certainly not turned into a ska band. Looking forward to their new full-length album on Bizarre Leprous Productions.
Just like the first 7” EP in this series, this one is hand numbered and limited to 1000 copies only. The only difference is that this one is pressed with blue on white splattered vinyl. Great stuff for grindcore fans and collectors alike.
