Those who thought they were in for a treat, having been presented with a new full-length album (freshly released by Hells Headbangers Records) as well as a new 7″ single from Death Yell, will be a little disappointed when they discover that this little piece of vinyl contains nothing new. Instead, this 7″ EP consists of two tracks that previously appeared on the new album, so although it’s a nice addition for collectors and completists, musically it’s a bit of a meagre addition to the discography of this legendary Chilean band.
This EP has the ‘Conjuring Asmodeus’ Seed’ and ‘Altar Servers’ Wrath’ tracks, the closing songs of both sides of the ‘Demons Of Lust’ album that was released about a month ago. The versions, however, are not exactly the same, as the one appearing on this 7” EP are demo recordings. That means they are slightly rougher around the edges and have a bit of a different production, but otherwise they are pretty much identical from the definitive versions that we’ve just heard on ‘Demons Of Lust’. If it had been released about six months before the final album, it would have been an excellent appetiser.
Perhaps that isn’t much of a problem, as we argue that there isn’t just a thing as “too much Death Yell” in the world, but keeping in mind that the album was released just three weeks prior this 7” EP, it feels a bit redundant. On the other hand, both tracks are very much representing what Death Yell is all about. So, regardless of the content and moment of release: if you are into wild and savage Black/Death Metal in the right South American tradition, this is actually a solid pick.
