Deathwinds – Ripping Annihilation [EP]

Artist: Deathwinds
Country: Canada
Label: Self-Released
Formats: Digital EP
Year: 2023

No less than nine years after the band’s last release, Deathwinds returns with a new EP, ‘Ripping Annihilation’. And yes, they have chosen this title very appropriately, this Canadian trio just picks up where they left off with the Vault Of Dried Bones-released ‘Endless Wastelands’ EP from 2014: totally ripping sonic annihilation.

Formed by three guys who are also active in the great Radioactive Vomit and follows a slightly comparable musical path of a lethal blend of Black and Death Metal, but adding a little of that trademark Canadian chaotic “War Metal”-sort of topping. While the previous EP already had those same ingredients, the slightly updated sound allows the grinding guitars, pummelling drums and barking vocals to sound even more ferocious than ever before. This way Deathwinds makes its entry into the ranks of the likes of Black Witchery, Blasphemy, Proclamation, Revenge, Angelcorpse and Witchcraft. None of which Deathwinds is offering can be accused of sounding original or fresh, instead the band obviously aims at cranking out just the sort music that they like and, fair enough, they do so quite effectively. Those grinding guitars, the typical wild whammy leads and the sudden bursts of violence make up for just that ripping and annihilating warfirst that they opted for and, if you are still reading this, it is very likely that this also what you hoped it would be.
