After Nuclear Winter Records’ reissue of Desekryptor’s ‘Curse Of The Execrated’ EP, both band and label decided to further strengthen their partnership with the release of ‘Sarcophagal Corridors’, a brand new EP. And just as with ‘Curse Of The Execrated’, this EP too has been put on both classic 7”-sized wax and shiny plastic, and, frankly, with this new piece of work the band solidifies their position as one of USA’s most promising Death Metal prospects.
‘Sarcophagal Corridors’ is not merely a logical continuation of what the band has been doing on previous releases, it truly feels like another step up the stairs to old style Death Metal-perfection. As before, Desekryptor takes the best of the intricacies of old Immolation, the layered heaviness of mid-period Incantation and blends it in with the more atmospheric elements of bands like Dead Congregation, Grave Miasma and Funebrarum. In just over the twelve minutes this new EP treats you with a highly dynamic shifting pace, rolling riffs, Morbid Angel-like leads and a rather dry-sounding vocal performance. The rather dense and riff-heavy production adds to the overall experience, resulting in an EP that definitely is up there with the best.
Desekryptor is mixing up the best of both worlds. ‘Sarcophagal Corridors’ has so much in common with the crème de la crème of contemporary Death Metal, including the massive production, but is deeply enough rooted in the old school aesthetics of the genre to keep appealing the purists. This gives the music a natural and organic flow but retains a certain urgency in each individual track. A rare combination that doesn’t let your attention wander for a second.
