Barbarity from Peru, that’s not exactly new of course. It may not be the purveyor of extreme metal from South American countries, but the country has certainly made a meaningful contribution to the continent’s scene. Formed at the end of the 10s, Dismorfia is a relatively new band contributing to the thriving Peruvian scene, and has yielded two demo tapes and a rehearsal tape prior to this latest work, which sees the light of day via the Gurgling Gore label.
‘Immortal Echoes From The Unknown’ is a 5-track EP of demo quality where no effort has been made to infuse it with any musical finesse or anything by which the musicians involved can be accused of any musicality. The somewhat mouldy and dank-sounding Death Metal is not only laced with influences from Grindcore, Doom Metal and Black Metal, the result is exactly accordingly. Dismorfia is a near-perfect South American equivalent of Finnish filth and bands that uphold the Ross Bay Cult sound. Again, no ingenuity but just oversimplified roaring straightforwardness in the style of early Beherit, Goatlord and Blasphemy. It is slow and murderous at the same time, leaving very little to the imagination. The sporadic horror movie sample and the Mortician cover (‘Zombie Apocalypse’) further seal the deal. The sum of these influences combined with the delightfully blubbery production makes this EP strongly reminiscent of the work of Sperm Of Antichrist (which later became Void Meditation Cult), something that can rightly be called a welcome rarity.
With its heavily distorted vocals and gritty, bass-heavy sound, ‘Immortal Echoes From The Unknown’ sounds very authentic and does exactly what it was made for: it pleases those with the depraved brain. If you consider yourself among them you can do yourself a favour and try to get your hands on this cassette tape.
